Reflecting upon a bustling September!

From ambitious builds to meticulous renovations, extensions, and fit-outs, September has been a busy and productive month for Krol Corlett.

Below, we’ve highlighted just two recently completed projects from our extensive portfolio in the education and healthcare sectors. These industries remain key areas of focus for us, and we’re excited to be attending both IHEEM and Education Estates Expo in Manchester this month to support.

As always, giving back to the communities we serve remains a priority – see below about our Dragon Boat racing and Simon Krol’s first podcast around our charity partner support with Nugent.

The summer refurbishments assisted in creating modern, functional spaces to support the college’s goal of providing state-of-the-art facilities for students and staff.

The Northern Care Alliance (NCA) – Rochdale Hospital

An extensive £1.2 million enhancement of Rochdale Hospital allowed Krol Corlett to support both the NHS and local community, creating a modern and welcoming space for patients and medical staff alike.

Peel Waters and Claire House Children’s Hospice – Dragon Boat Race 2024

Krol Corlett teamed up with Walker Sime to participate in the Liverpool Waters Dragon Boat Race in aid of Claire House Children’s Hospice. Our amazing team placed third, with the event raising over £35,000 for the hospice.

Simon Krol recently joined Downtown in Business and Nugent to discuss the highly anticipated Nugent Gala, set for this November.

Krol Corlett has built a strong partnership with Nugent, sponsoring the Gala annually for three consecutive years. This collaboration underscores Krol Corlett’s dedication to supporting local communities and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

Peel Waters & Claire House Children’s Hospice – Dragon Boat Race 2024

Peel Waters and Claire House Children’s Hospice – Dragon Boat Race 2024

KROL CORLETT GROUP teamed up with Walker Sime and participated in the Liverpool Waters Dragon Boat Race in aid of Claire House Children’s Hospice. Our amazing team placed 3rd, what an achievement! Fantastic work from all of the teams involved in raising over £35,000!

Liverpool Waters and Claire House Children’s Hospice have worked together for many years and all funds will go to their newest site in West Derby, close to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences and bringing back a sense of normality to family life.

The support previously given has helped the charity to expand its reach across the region and out in the community, enabling it to provide specialist end of life nursing care to more children and families.

We have loved supporting this fantastic event and well done to all of the other teams for getting involved too!

Our endeavours have been focused on shaping the futures of students and staff in renowned institutions including, University of Liverpool – Eleanor Rathbone & ‘Nanomed Laboratories’, Liverpool John Moores, Beamont Collegiate Academy, to High School & Primary Schools including Tarporley, Broad Green, Norman Pannell, Cottom, KirkbyCE .

In other sectors our relationship with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue grows from strength to strength and this month we finish Bolton Central Fire Station. We have new schemes starting with North Manchester General Hospital, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Fleetwood Youth Hub phase 2 and that is just a few!

We have proudly welcomed many apprentices and work experience students throughout the years, particularly during this recent summer (just a few pictured here).

UK's fastest-growing construction market

Forecasts indicate that the UK have the fastest-growing construction market of the major Western European economies over the next 15 years. With a recent report suggesting the need for an extra 251,500 construction workers by 2028 to meet expected levels of demand in the UK. Despite this growth in demand, the number of starts for young learners remains low.

With a constant demand for skilled professionals, the role of apprentices in construction is more critical than ever. The construction sector in England continues to trail below the level required to meet the demand borne by the growing skills gap crisis, whilst struggling to entice people into the industry.

Supporting the transformative powers of apprenticeships

A reported 6 % year-on-year drop in apprenticeships started last year, according to the latest government figures. This can often be due to outdated perceptions of it being a ‘dirty’ & an unsafe environment. When analysing the top 100 most popular apprenticeship roles taken up in 2023, it was clear that construction-relevant roles lag behind areas such as data analysis, early years education, accounting, and digital technology…

Krol Corlett understand the importance of strengthening our industry with new talent and how work-based learning can be a game changer. Our business and the culture here appreciate the transformative power of apprenticeships in particular, because many of our now senior managers, including Managing Director Daniel Tebay, has risen through these very ranks.

Brindley Theatre enhancement underway

Ground-breaking ceremony got the show on the road for Halton Borough Council‘s Brindley Theatre, with this £9.5m upgrade!

The extension to the Brindley Theatre in Runcorn will include a large new cafe-restaurant, relocated library, education extension and a civic space on the Brindley green, providing a more accessible and visible cultural destination.

Krol Corlett Construction, are the appointed main contractor for the building extension and enhancement works.

Dan Tebay MD of Krol Corlett Construction, said:

“We are incredibly proud to be the appointed main contractor for this transformative project as part of the ‘Reconnecting Runcorn’ Town Investment Plan. The Brindley has long been a cherished landmark, and our team is excited to bring this ambitious scheme to life.

“We specialise in enhancing iconic cultural hubs and to play our part in this collaboration that will help bring more visitors, boosting the local economy and the town’s appeal as a prime destination, is a real honour.”

The scheme is a part of a wider programme, ‘Reconnecting Runcorn’ which is made up of eight projects, incorporating 14 strands throughout Runcorn, to drive sustainable long term economic and productivity growth through the regeneration of the town. The programme was awarded funding from the Towns Fund in 2021 as part of the UK Government’s Town Deals Programme.

The enhancement has been made possible by funding from the UK Government and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Cllr Paul Nolan, Halton Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Cultural and Leisure Services, says:

“It’s great to see that work is now underway on what heralds an exciting future for the Brindley. Since opening in 2004, the Brindley Theatre has become a key asset in the borough and has steadily increased its customer base. The Brindley is an award-winning theatre and, by transforming it into a Cultural Hub, will give the community even more reasons to visit.”

Business as usual

Due to careful planning our construction works will have no impact on performances, with events at The Brindley continuing as normal.

The Brindley enhancement is expected to be complete by June 2026.

Krol Corlett take on Tough Mudder to support Zoe’s Place Hospice

When Krol Corlett learned about the urgent £3.5 million appeal to secure a new home for Zoe’s Place Hospice, we knew we had to get involved.

Zoe’s Place is the UK’s only baby hospice charity, dedicated to helping children and their families live life to the fullest.

We were proud to join their ‘150 Club’, a group of businesses coming together to support this vital cause.

Aimee Clare, Capital Appeal Lead at Zoe’s Place, shared:

“Zoe’s Place has been providing specialist care and support to local children and their families for the past 28.5 years…. Our appeal to raise £3.5 million for our new hospice will rely on the generosity of individuals, companies, and organisations across the Northwest of England.”

To kick off our support, 25 courageous members of our Krol Corlett team have committed to tackling the Tough Mudder challenge this October.

A big shout out goes our amazing Admin team, who have helped organise this gruelling challenge designed to push our team to their limits.

Building Healing Spaces: How Collaboration and Teamwork Drive Our NHS Projects Forward

As we continue our work across a range of NHS schemes, constructing and refurbishing hospitals clinics and medical centres this ‘summer’. We take a moment to appreciate that the success of any project lies in the strength of our team, partners and of course client.

Yesterday the full Alder Hey project team and client came together for a successful progress meeting and site walk-round, ensuring every detail is on track and accounted.

Open communication, collaboration and teamwork is at the heart of what we do and essential at every stage. It is these values that drive us forward.

Our commitment is clear: to create healthcare spaces that are not only state-of-the-art but also nurturing environments promoting healing and well-being.

It’s been an exciting month here at Krol Corlett!

The summer silly season is upon us, and we’re so here for it! It’s another month of growth and new contact wins here at Krol Corlett.

We’re thrilled to announce a series of new projects, including a major contract with Warrington Borough Council for the construction of Helsby Street Children’s Complex Needs Hub.

Our new partnership with Peel Land and Property has us fitting out the Millers Quay Pavilion, while Liverpool City Council has entrusted us with further phases at both Broadgreen Primary School and Norman Panel Primary School. Additionally, work is progressing smoothly at The City of Liverpool College, all ready for the big return!

Moreover, we are delighted to report our recent appointment to the Capital Works Framework 2024–2028 programme for both Cumberland Council and Westmorland & Furness Councils.

Director Summary: Simon Krol

“My main reflection on the past four weeks is no real surprise, that we are extremely busy in this period.

Historically July/August is our busiest period particularly with our education projects as it is the perfect time to start most schemes and to intensify larger schemes that can run through the summer breaks.

Whilst operations out on site are heightened over this period tenders are still coming in at a higher than usual level indicating that there is definitely a willingness to bring new projects to site moving into the autumn. We have secured a number of major projects including a multi-million-pound extension and refurbishment to Brindley Theatre in Runcorn, which is the signature job in Halton over the next twelve months. Alongside this project we have more exciting projects to announce in the coming weeks…

Our new Directors, Neil Hoey and Neil Hudson are settled in well alongside new MD Dan Tebay and with the support of Dave Corlett and myself, we are confident the business is moving in the right direction with our ever expanding team supporting in all areas.
